Prof. Emmanuel Kweku Nakua

Professor Emmanuel Kweku Nakua is the Vice Dean of the School of Public Health at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. A seasoned epidemiologist and biostatistician, he holds a PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and is an alumnus of KNUST.

With deep expertise in population health, Professor Nakua serves as Ghana's Principal Investigator for the Sub-Saharan Africa Consortium for Advanced Biostatistics (SSACAB), a program committed to building biostatistical capacity across Africa. His translational research focuses on testing and promoting evidence-based interventions in resource-limited settings.

Over the past decade, his work has addressed key public health challenges, including maternal health, injury prevention, ageing, family planning, and human resources for health. With over 50 scholarly publications, Prof. Nakua is dedicated to contributing his expertise to data-driven health interventions that aim to reduce injuries and improve outcomes across communities in Ghana.

About Us

Kumasi Injury is a research collaboration between Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi Ghana and University of Washington (UW), Seattle USA. Its agenda is to strengthen injury control research in Ghana and West Africa. The program is solidly grounded on a history of collaboration in injury research, which started in 1995 and has received funding through Fogarty International Center (FIC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA since 2006.
