Prof. Veronica Millicent Dzomeku

Professor (Mrs.) Veronica Millicent Dzomeku is the Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. She holds the distinction of being the first person in Ghana to be promoted to Full Professor in the field of Midwifery. This historic milestone reflects her outstanding contributions to maternal health and academic leadership. With over 27 years of experience spanning clinical midwifery, education, and research, Prof. Dzomeku has dedicated her career to improving maternal care outcomes in Ghana and beyond. 

She earned her BSc and MPhil degrees from the University of Ghana and completed her PhD at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa.
Her internationally recognized work includes leading projects on respectful maternity care, digital triage systems, and maternal referral pathways, supported by institutions such as the NIH, USAID, and the University of Michigan. She is a recipient of the Emerging Leader Award and continues to publish widely in peer-reviewed journals. 

With over 50 scholarly publications and multiple international collaborations, she remains committed to advancing maternal care policy and practice in Ghana and across sub-Saharan Africa.

About Us

Kumasi Injury is a research collaboration between Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi Ghana and University of Washington (UW), Seattle USA. Its agenda is to strengthen injury control research in Ghana and West Africa. The program is solidly grounded on a history of collaboration in injury research, which started in 1995 and has received funding through Fogarty International Center (FIC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA since 2006.
